We viewed this billboard as an opportunity to invite audiences to engage the narrative of mass incarceration with their own curiosity and sympathy. The impact of incarceration is damaging to the individual but reaches beyond to their children, loved ones, and community members. At A New Way Of Life Reentry Project we strive to find solutions that promote healing, support, and motivation to change. With calling attention to this devastating statistic, we are encouraging audiences to “fact check” this information and learn more about the root systemic causes and possible solutions to this problem. In doing so, they will learn that public resources are better invested in opportunities for transformation rather than prisons and punishments.
